SARCOXIE TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING
Minutes – January 17, 2024
GENERAL MEETING
The January Sarcoxie Township Board meeting was called to order by Trustee Kim Swearngin at 7:06pm, January 17, 2024 at the 21st street Sarcoxie Fire Station. Board members Renz, Swearngin, and Lockwood were present and Chief Dover and Asst Chief Neuburger attended. County Commissioner Walbridge attended.
AGENDA The agenda was approved (Renz-Swearngin).
GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT County Commissioner Doug Walbridge expressed thoughts on gravel roads and rock quality, Rim Rock concerns, County Budget plans, dollars from COVID reserves, Planning and Zone director Dustin Parks resigns in January, replaced by Stephen Metzer. Doug also entertained questions about combining some of the 12 fire districts. He said that those requests will not be considered. The Sarcoxie Twp Board thanked Commissioner Walbridge for his attendance and comments.
MINUTES December 20, 2023 minutes were approved (Renz-Swearngin).
TREASURER’S REPORT
Treasurer Renz reported and presented the bills to be paid for the month, and the monthly bank balance statement. The Board reconciled the bank balance of $435,027.25. The Board approved the report and payments, and sent year-end papers to the County. (Renz-Swearngin). All Board financial reports are posted on the Township web site at sarcoxietwp.com.
FIRE CHIEF’S REPORT
- Chief Dover reported 4 calls through December and 101 runs for 2023. January 3 calls and 3 to date.
- Year-end Department dinner is scheduled for Feb 10th at Topeka North Star.
- All trucks and equipment are in good working condition.
- Chief Dover will discuss plans for grass mowing at the February meeting.
- Lexipol Fire and Rescue/Med online training is working well for the Department.
- KS FF annual meeting in Salina.
Board acknowledged Chief’s report
OLD BUSINESS. Bylaws, FDS policy manual, FD recruiting, and Chief’s truck use continue to be in review.
NEW BUSINESS 1. Reimbursement payments and year-end budget transfers were completed. 2. Approval (Renz-Swearngin) for the meeting schedule and business arrangements as were in place in 2023, meeting once a month on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, 7pm at the 21st and Union Fire Station. The official newspaper is the Oskaloosa Independent, the official bank is First State Bank and Trust of Lawrence, Kansas, and the web site managed by Duane Thiry is sarcoxietwp.com.
NEXT REGULAR MEETING is February 21, 2024, at 7pm at the 21st station.
